Welcome back to school and Happy New Year. We hope you enjoyed the holidays and sincerely thank you for all the Christmas gifts and well wishes. January is typically a very busy month, and this year is no exception. Please read below so you are informed about the many happenings. Also remember to notify the preschool office if any of your emergency numbers or medical insurance information have recently changed.
Registration began last week for our current in-house families. We open to new families on Monday, Jan 13th. If you know of new families looking for a preschool, please recommend us! I am happy to give tours and information. If you have any questions about registration or class offerings, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks to the many families who presented our staff with such wonderful gifts and cards at Christmas. We appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness.
Thanks to the families who donated hats and mittens last month. The Centers we delivered them to were very appreciative. Many children will be warm and dry this winter because of your efforts to help those in need!
Thanks to all families who attended the Christmas Chapel with Parents. We invite you once again to be with us on Monday, April 6th for Easter Chapel with Parents.
Mazzella's "No Cook" Night
Tired of cooking in the middle of winter?? Please join us for our "No Cook Night" fundraiser at Mazzella's Italian Restaurant on Philadelphia Pike. A flyer will come home for you to present to enable our school to get a portion of the sale. You can dine in or take out during lunch or dinner that day.
Soup Sale Fundraiser
Another yummy fundraiser is right around the corner!! This year's Soup Sale will run Thursday, January 30th and Friday, January 31st. Soups are donated from local restaurants and cost $8/qt. Breads/rolls are $5 and you can purchase 2 soups plus bread for $20. Thanks to Nicole Welding for chairing this event!
January and February do not have a class assigned to adopt the preschool for the month, however, the church will still be serving the monthly lunch at the Emmanuel Dining Room (EDR). We are in need of several volunteers to bake brownies for the meal. Please let me know if you are able to bring some in by the 25th of the month.
Bad Weather Closings
I make the decision to close our school based on weather reports and recommendations from State Officials. For the past few years, we have been using the School Messenger system to inform you of weather related closings and important messages. The earliest the system would call you is 6:15 am. If it is an early morning call, we will only send the message to the "Main" phone you listed on your emergency phone tree. If we have an emergency and need to cancel close to or during school hours, we will call all of your emergency numbers. We do also list our closing on the WSTW Snowatch website. On that site, we are listed under childcare centers not schools. If you have any questions or need to make changes to any of your listed emergency numbers, please see me or email Julie Moore at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Friday Specials begin this week. The total cost is $180 for the 12 week session. A $50 deposit was paid in mid Dec. for those who registered then. The balance of $130 is due on the first class Friday, Jan. 10th.
** We will not have specials on 2/7 due to the Art Fair, 2/14 due to the Teacher In-Service Day, 3/27 due to conferences or 4/10 and 4/17 due to Easter Break. There is still room in Dance and Soccer for those who would like to participate.
This year's Reading Challenge is "Reading is SNOW much fun!". The challenge runs from January 27-31. During this time, you are asked to spend some shared reading time with your child and keep a log. After you have read 10 books together, bring in the completed log for prizes. Remember to complete the challenge by the deadline. I will be in the lobby area handing out free books, stickers and book marks!!
Art Fair Social
Back by popular demand, this year's Art Fair will be on Friday, Feb. 7th from 6 to 7:30 pm. Please come to see beautiful art projects made by the students and socialize with each other and your teachers. Admission is free. There will be a bake sale with nut-free goodies made by the teachers to benefit our financial aid fund. You won't want to miss this fun family event!!
Valentine's Day celebrations will be happening in a few weeks. The children look forward to giving and receiving cards of love and friendship. Your child's teacher will provide you with class specific information soon. Most chocolate treats are not safe for nut allergies. When choosing a nut free candy treat for Valentine's Day or Easter, we suggest: plain milk chocolate Hershey Kisses, York Peppermint Patties, Twizzlers, Tootsie Rolls, Dum Dum Lollipops and Skittles. Please make sure to check the package label each time you purchase to make sure the ingredients have not changed.
Save the dates! Camp will run for 3 weeks this year Tuesday-Friday. The hours are 9-12. Week 1- 5/26-29. Week 2- 6/2-5. Week 3- 6/9-12. Themes to be announced soon. Registration for camp will begin on Wednesday, April 1st at drop off. FYI- Camp typically fills up on the first morning of registration.
Spring Conference dates
Spring conferences will take place on Thursday, March 26th and Friday, March 27th. We will not have school on either of these dates. Please mark the dates on your calendar and look for a sign up sheet outside of your child's classroom in the near future.
